A spooky-spectacular October for fine arts

RIO RANCHO — October is a big month for fine arts. School has been back in season for nearly two rehearsal-filled months, and now it’s finally showtime. Everything from music to theater to choir to ghosts and ghouls are hitting the scene this month.

On Oct. 5, Los Lunas High School is hosting the Los Lunas Marching Band Invitational. RRPS schools will be marching down south to join in the festivities. The Cleveland High School Marching Band will look to continue to turn heads after returning from the Bands of America competition in Midlands, Texas, on Sept. 28.

The marching band festivities continue as the Zia Marching Fiesta kicks off at UNM on Oct. 19.

Then the month concludes with the NMAA State Marching Band Contest, which is taking place at RRHS on Oct. 26. Cleveland will look to retain their 5A title from last year.

The theater lights will also be flashing on this month as both the RRHS and CHS drama troupes have their fall performances.

Everyone knows, though, October is about one thing: Halloween. As the month wraps up, there is plenty on tap for the trick-or-treat enthusiasts out there.

On Oct. 24, the CHS choir kicks things off with the opening of its Haunted House event, which runs through Oct. 26. Then, the elementary schools get in on the action with the Elementary Orchestra Spookfest Concert, set for Oct. 29 at the Cleveland High School Performance Hall.
