On Feb. 16, the Corrales Historical Society (CHS) will host Crow Canyon Archeological Center staff educator and former Indian Pueblo Cultural Center (IPCC) cultural educator, Jon Ghahate at the Old Church for a presentation on the Pueblo Revolt of 1680.

"A century and seven years before the U.S. Constitution was written, Ohkay Owingeh leader Po’Pay embodied the principles of that document to liberate his people and other Indigenous civilizations from the brutal Spanish rule," the CHS explained in a new release.

According to the release, Ghahate will delve into the history and significance of the Pueblo Revolt in his presentation “Autonomy: the Core of the 1680 Pueblo Revolt". His presentation will also include a knotted yucca cord demonstration.

The presentation will address key topics about this historical event including, the origins of the term "pueblos", pre- and post-colonization daily life in Pueblo communities, factors that led to the revolt, and the impact of it's conclusion.

Ghahate is a member of the Pueblos of Laguna and Zuni and of the Badger and Turkey clans. He resides in Placitas, NM.
