Man arrested in Corrales for battering man with large stick

CORRALES — A man was arrested for allegedly punching and beating another man with a stick in Corrales on Friday.

Clory Silva, 56, of Corrales, was arrested Oct. 24 for aggravated battery, aggravated assault and battery with a deadly weapon at a residence in the 4900 block of Corrales Road.

According to an amended criminal complaint, police responded to a report of a man walking around near the roadway with a stick saying he was "going to kill people." Officers detained him and note in the complaint that he was "very angry" and continued to yell.

The complaint states another man was sitting on the ground with blood coming from his nose and face The victim said that he was sent to the property to clean it up by the property owner. He added that Silva came out of a shed on the property and immediately began screaming at him and began attacking him. He told police Silva punched him in the nose and then began hitting him in the head with a large stick, described to be several feet long and about 2-3 inches thick. It was located nearby

Silva told officers that he believed the victim was stealing his clothes and confronted him. He said he knew the property owner was paying to have the property cleaned because he had been cited by the village of Corrales for the debris and trash on the property.

The property owner said they were in the process of evicting Silva from the property and that he had been yelling at them the past few weeks.

Silva could face up to 4 1/2 years in prison if he is convicted. He was released pretrial and is due in court next month.
