The village of Corrales council changed a few things in the village code at its regular council meeting Aug. 27.

The first change was an addition to the Environmental Nuisances section just under the subsection about what constitutes as a nuisance.

"All exterior property areas which have been altered or not in their natural state or developed in any way shall be kept free from dead vegetation, tumbleweeds, weeds, bushes, tall grass and trees which prevent visual blight upon the area or which may harbor insect or rodent infestations, and dead vegetation which is likely to become a fire hazard or result in a condition that may threaten the health and safety or economic welfare of adjacent property owners or occupants. Vegetation shall not extend into the roadway. Any vegetation overhanging the road shall be trimmed to provide a vertical clearance of 13 feet, 6 inches inches, to allow access for fire engines and equipment," it reads.

According to Corrales Fire Department records, they responded to two building fire calls, one structure fire and two forest, woodland or wildland fires last month.

The other change was to the lighting code under Enforcement and Penalties for Violation. Subsection two was changed to read, "When the planning and zoning administrator or Village-designated enforcement officer determines that a light fixture violates this Section, they will contact the owner, tenant, agent, or person in charge of the premises where the violation has occurred and notify them of the violation in writing."

People can read the full sections mentioned above on the council agenda packet or at corrales-nm.org.
