Corrales improves Sagebrush for the good of the central NM area
Sagebrush Drive in Corrales.
Road construction will began on Sagebrush Drive in Corrales Aug. 5 and will continue through Sept. 20.
Mayor Jim Fahey says construction hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and to expect delays in the area.
According to Corrales Public Works Director Michael Chavez, the project "has been a long time coming."
The improvements to Sagebrush Drive have been gradual. To start, the new path connecting Rio Rancho to Sagebrush was completed a couple years back. The path had been worked on by the Corrales Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission for several years. With funding from Sandoval County Commissioner Jay Block and the village of Corrales and the support of then-Mayor JoAnne Roake, public works was able to build the path.
"Once the path was completed, with the support and approval of Mayor Fahey and the Village Council, we applied for funds through NMDOT for repaving Sagebrush Drive," Chavez said.
The funding came from the New Mexico Department of Transportation through the Transportation Project Fund.
"We are pulverizing the existing roadway and recycling as base for the new road. The new roadway will be widened with room for a bicycle/pedestrian Path on one side," Chavez added.
Earlier this year, Cabezon Road was repaved with a similar design, and West Meadowlark is in the works as well.
"We are working to have a loop system of bicycle/pedestrian paths between Corrales, Rio Rancho and Albuquerque," Chavez said.
