Corrales Historical Society to take harvest festival participants into the past at Old Church

The last stop on the hay ride at the Corrales Harvest Festival Saturday and Sunday will be the Historic Old San Ysidro Church and Casa San Ysidro.

The Old Church, along with Casa San Ysidro, comprise the "true Historic Heart of Corrales," according to the Corrales Historical Society. Both venues will have several activities for attendees to see and do.

"Dig into the agricultural heritage of Corrales! Antique utensils and tools will be on display, including farming implements, cauldrons and a wine and cider press. Try your hand at corn grinding and butter churning, just like they did back in the day. And watch the fast and furious fingers of Margarita Garcia-Sexson as she demonstrates ristra making right before your eyes, both Saturday and Sunday," a press release states.

There will also be performances throughout both days of traditional Corrales music with song and dance.

For the kids, there will be a craft table where they can try making musical instruments. Next to that table is a tasting table. There will also be corn hole and ring toss for the kids among other old-fashioned games.

"Spend time at our newly acquired Touch Screen Display Table! Historic photos, literally at your fingertips, include images of the Old Church structure over the years, agriculture and acequias in Corrales, the evolution of transportation in Corrales, and early Corrales art and artisans," the release says..

Those activities are just inside the Old Church, but, according to the release, there will be more outside. For the seventh year in a row, people can participate in the popular pie walk and win homemade pies made from "harvest favorites." Flavors like apple, blueberry, peach, pumpkin, rhubarb, apricot, and more will be up for the winning. People will have the chance for photos with cut-out boards of farm scenes as well.

CHS docents will also be selling gifts and souvenirs at Shop in a Basket. CHS membership information about the Old Church also be displayed.
