Corrales group presents Disney's 'Frozen Jr.' opening tonight
Heartstrings Theatre brings Disney's "Frozen Jr." to the African American Performing Arts Center Dec. 13-14.
ALBUQUERQUE — This weekend, Heartstrings Theatre Company will be performing their musical play Disney's Frozen Jr. at the African American Performing Arts Center Dec. 13-14.
"It felt like a really good blend of Winter and Christmas, and we all want wholesome, fun entertainment during this time," said director Somer Sloan, who is also the founder of Heartstrings Theatre and its artistic director.
Disney's "Frozen Jr." will have three shows: 6:30 p.m. Dec. 13, and 2 and 6:30 p.m. Dec. 14.
"We have put in a lot of work with an awesome tech crew, people who are working on the mics; we are so grateful to have them. Also, the wonderful people who bring us food and the costume people; we are so grateful for all of them," said Parker Clayton, who is playing the Duke of Weselton.
Heartstrings Theatre Company is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing inclusive theatre opportunities for children, focusing on fostering creativity, confidence, and collaboration. For this production, rehearsal was conducted at Corrales Elementary School.
"I love it. Being able to test myself ... and being able to make new friends," said Eliza Poffenberger, who is playing a townsperson and is a big fan of the movie "Frozen."
The production is in partnership with the African American Performing Arts Center (AAPAC), 310 San Pedro Drive NE, Albuquerque.
“We are overjoyed to bring 'Frozen Jr.' to the African American Performing Arts Center,” said Kim Rothwell, board president of Heartstrings Theatre Company. “This partnership allows us to amplify our shared mission of celebrating diversity and creativity while ensuring every child has the opportunity to discover the joy of theatre.”
This musical adaption of the beloved Disney classic tells the story of sisters Elsa and Anna and the obstacles they must overcome to save the kingdom of Arendelle.
The production features a cast of local children and teens and is quite the holiday event for all ages.

"Honestly, it's perfect for all ages. I have many family members from all different ages, and I guarantee you they are all going to love it," said Logan Milligan, who is playing Sven.
