Sandoval Regional Medical Center received more recognition for their care July 16.

According to the UNM Health Sciences Communications Department, U.S. News & World Report rated SRMC as a high-performing hospital in diabetes care.

"This designation is particularly important considering 12.3% of our state’s population has a diabetes diagnosis, with an additional 53,000 New Mexicans unaware they have diabetes, according to a 2023 report released by the American Diabetes Association," the release states.

Hospital President Jamie Silva-Steele is appreciative of the recognition.

“Many of our patients at SRMC come from rural and tribal areas of the state, where diabetes and diseases linked to diabetes are prevalent. I’m proud of our teams who are providing this care and working to make Sandoval County and surrounding areas healthier. We have an important mission to improve access to care and equity in health outcomes and ratings like these prove that we are working to achieve that goal every day,” she said.

This rating comes after SRMC was rated as one of the top hospitals in the nation for acute care and turmoil over unionization.
