RIO RANCHO — It was a slightly chilly, early morning at the new Sprouts in Enchanted Hills Sept. 27, but that did not deter the hundreds of Rio Ranchoans lined up outside the door as the store opened for business.

One Rio Ranchoan was there with his service dog.

“I’m here to check out the new store. I’m excited to have one a little closer and easier to get to on this side of town,” Richard Rogers said.

He added he gets his turtle food from Sprouts and is happy to have one closer to home.

An enthusiastic Mayor Gregg Hull was also beaming at the opening.

“This is a great morning in Rio Rancho, despite the smokey haze,” he said.

Hull thanked the staff and customers on behalf of the city council and city management. The Sprouts opening, as Hull said, meant a lot more than people realized.

“We bought our first house out here in Enchanted Hills in 1997, and this was all dirt. What you’re seeing here represents well over $150 million worth of investment in Rio Rancho, and that’s where we are grateful for Sprouts, their contribution to this development and seeing the value in Rio Rancho,” he said.

Councilor Bob Tyler was also in attendance and thanked Sprouts’ staff.

Pam Greene, Sprouts’ grand opening manager, welcomed the line of customers alongside the numerous employees ready to serve.

“Makes sure you cheer them on,” she said before the doors were opened.

So, as customers filed in through the door, the staff cheered and the first 100 customers got reusable bags. Greene also thanked the customers for being at the store “bright and early” for the grand opening.

After a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony and the speeches, the doors officially opened at 7 a.m.
