Rio Ranchoans attend weekend farmer's market
RIO RANCHO — The first weekend of March was sunny and warm, making Sunday the perfect day for an outdoor farmers market in Rio Rancho.
A small group of vendors held the space in front of From the Ground Up Landscaping for the event. One Placitas woman was selling her homemade bagels.
“It takes me two days to make the bagels, and so I do a starter with them, kind of like a sourdough, and then shape them, and they rest overnight. Then I boil them and bake them the next morning,” Carolyn Stice said.
Stice started making bagels 18 years ago and started selling them in the Placitas community in January.
There were some familiar faces at the event as well, including Heavenly Body Budda owner Hattie Gordon. She was there selling her bath and shower products as well as her usual Body Budda.
A popular stop was the Fur Get Me Not Canine Rescue. The rescue had a few dogs from Rio Rancho’s animal shelter, but a batch of puppies were the biggest draw. At around 10:30 a.m. they confirmed they made one confirmed adoption.
The farmers market had vendors selling jewelry, sourdough, tea and more. The market drew crowds from its start at 9 a.m. to its end at 2 p.m.
