Roadrunner Storage celebrated its opening Sept. 10 with a ribbon cutting at its Northern Boulevard location.
Julie Villegas, Esmail Haidari and Mark Chavez are among those who made the opening possible.
"When Julie first approached me about this possibility of doing self-storage about 2 1/2 years ago, I instantly jumped into it," Chavez said.
He added that the request from a close friend was something he couldn't turn down. He went on to admire the look of the new grounds.
"I think we have two of the most recognizable colors," he said.
Roadrunner Storage chose pink and teal as their colors to stand out. The facility is 100,000 square feet with 420 units available for use.
"We talked about building a legacy," he said.
He hopes to pass it down to his children some day.
Villegas added to that, saying she wants the storage facility to cater to the Rio Rancho community, which she loves.
"I am so proud to live in Rio Rancho," she said.
She says they plan to build a 220-unit apartment complex to the east of the storage units as well.
"I want other people to be able to say how proud they are to live in the city," she said.
She also recognized the strong partnership with Ready Mix Concrete, which poured the entire driving space in the facility.
Haidari is the land owner of the space for the storage facility as well as the future apartment complex. He and Villegas worked closely to get the project together.
For Villegas, it was also important to include recognition for breast cancer awareness.
"There was only one thing I asked of my partners, and that was that we donate a portion of our proceeds to breast cancer awareness," she said.
Allison Hendricks-Smith, president and founder of the Pink Warrior House foundation, thanked Villegas, saying they are able to provide support to people because of partners like her.
Roadrunner Storage welcomed Rio Rancho Mayor Gregg Hull, Sandoval County Commissioners Dave Heil and Mike Meek and Rio Rancho Regional Chamber of Commerce President Jerry Schalow, who all presented plaques to commemorate the opening.
