RIO RANCHO — A local print shop got new owners in June, but the shop celebrated the takeover on Oct. 21.

Co-owner Kristina Hampton said all the equipment, name and everything were already there when they moved in.

“We purchased the business as the asset, since we purchased the building and the property. It all just came with it except whatever legal stuff that they had stayed with the previous owners,” she said.

The process has not been easy, but the previous owners taught Hampton and her co-owners everything they knew.

“It’s been so busy. It’s so much to jump into an existing business and learn everything about it and figure out how to run it. The former owners were great about teaching us in the beginning,” she said.

So far, the most challenging but welcomed part of taking on the business has been staying on top of all of the orders, according to Hampton.

“I would say we probably move about 20-25 orders a week,” she said.

But each order differs in size, she added. Some may be 600 pieces and others might be for a small group. The business does T-shirts, sweatshirts, jerseys, hats and more. They are capable of custom screen print designs as well as embroidered pieces.

Printing services include graphic design, art separation, PMS plastisol ink matching, heat transfers and foil application, simulated process and CMYK printing and glow-in-the-dark ink and 3M ink. They also do relabeling.

Screen Kings is also capable of producing promotional and business materials such as stickers, banners, decals, wallpaper, magnets, labels and wraps, according to the website.

Hampton said they want to expand services to schools and churches in the community.

“We’re in the planning stages of building out a comprehensive structure for smaller churches to be able to have merchandise to provide to their congregation. What we want to do a few different shirts each month and do a larger run at the end of the month and then distribute them to different churches,” she said.

While there are corporate places to get printed works, Hampton said at Screen Kings, the service is from a family-run business ... “and (customers) become part of the family and get attention to detail,” she said.
