New fuel station being added to RR Walmart

RIO RANCHO — Anyone driving near the Unser and Southern boulevards intersection will see Walmart is up to something big.

A fuel station is currently under construction and is set to open to the public in December, according to a Walmart spokesperson.

“We’re excited to bring Fuel and Convenience to Rio Rancho,” the spokesperson wrote in an email July 10.

The Walmart Fuel and Convenience station will have 10 fuel dispensers with fueling points for 20 customers, according to the spokesperson. Walmart+ members will save 10 cents per gallon with their membership.

“In addition to the low prices at the pumps, the Walmart Fuel and Convenience station also offers the same low prices on snacks and beverages as what’s offered inside the store. Customers will find a wide range of grab-and-go items, including a full beverage bar with fountain drinks, bean-to-cup coffee and ICEEs. There will also be a great selection of snacks, candy and general automotive products,” the spokesperson wrote.

They added that the reason for Walmart adding the fuel station was to help reach and serve even more customers in the Rio Rancho community.

“We want to provide quality fuel at the everyday low price customers expect at Walmart,” the spokesperson wrote.

The goal is to allow Rio Ranchoans to “save money and time,” they said.

The spokesperson also said several jobs would be added to the area with the addition of the fuel station.

“By offering fuel and convenience options, we’re able to reach and serve even more customers in the Rio Rancho community and bring them even more value — whether that’s through competitive fuel prices, fuel discounts for Walmart+ members, or the convenience of one-stop shopping,” they wrote.

As the fuel station takes up a large part of the lot at Walmart, the spokesperson wrote that the company will make every effort to minimize traffic interruption.

For now, a large square lot with a fence around it is making its presence known to the community.
