Lovelace acquires six NextCare Urgent Care clinics in New Mexico, including in RR
Lovelace Health System and its parent company, Ardent Health, acquired six NextCare Urgent Care locations in New Mexico. It gives the health system seven urgent care clinics across the state.
ALBUQUERQUE — One of New Mexico’s largest health systems is getting a bit bigger, as Lovelace Health System officials announced this month it has acquired six urgent care clinics across the state.
The addition of the NextCare Urgent Care locations — four in Albuquerque, one in Rio Rancho and another in Taos — is part of a broader acquisition of clinics by Lovelace’s parent company, Ardent Health, which also purchased 12 urgent care clinics in Oklahoma.
“Urgent care clinics play a vital role for those seeking same-day appointments or care for conditions that don’t require an emergency room visit,” said Troy Greer, the CEO of Lovelace Health System, appointed in November 2023. “By expanding our urgent care offerings, we’re making it easier and more convenient for community members to access our skilled providers and care teams.”
For Lovelace, the folding in of the urgent care clinics adds to a large staff of more than 3,500 team members. Those clinics bring an additional 37 employees, including 10 providers, said Lovelace spokesperson Whitney Alcantar.
It also expands Lovelace’s presence across the state, which includes six hospitals in Albuquerque and Roswell and dozens of clinics through its Lovelace Medical Group arm.
The NextCare clinics being added through the acquisition include Albuquerque locations on Unser Boulevard, Golf Course Road, Menaul Boulevard, Paseo Del Norte Boulevard, and Taos and Rio Rancho. Lovelace previously operated just one urgent care location at 6701 Jefferson NE in Albuquerque.
Officials didn’t disclose the terms of the acquisition. However, Alcantar said Lovelace and Ardent finalized the deal at the end of December. She said Lovelace pursued the deal because of the health system’s “well-established relationship with the communities we serve.”
Alcantar said the urgent care clinics’ transition will occur through the summer and eventually rebrand under the Lovelace banner. She added that the health system and clinics will not change insurance accepted.
“Our urgent care expansion is a natural step as we continue to build a more consumer-centered health care ecosystem capable of meeting patient needs across a variety of settings,” Alcantar said.
