La Pawta lets the dogs out with opening
RIO RANCHO — A day camp and spa for dogs celebrated its opening Feb. 11 in Rio Rancho, and the dogs couldn’t be happier.
Iria and Andrew Vargas, owners of La Pawta, located on Arrowhead Ridge Drive, were happy, too.
“It’s important for the community we take care of dogs, how we make sure they’re safe, they are clean, they go home and, most important, that we don’t cage them unless they want to be caged,” Iria said.
She said people are often concerned about the well-being of their dog when they are dropped off.
“Because they drop them off and they’re here four hours, and they don’t want to be in a kennel where they’re just there. Some dogs prefer, or some clients are happy, to know that while the dog is here, they get to play around with dogs while they’re here getting groomed,” she said.
When dogs go to La Pawta, they can play in a large play room with other dogs.
Iria has also been around dogs her whole life, and there was never a time she didn’t have at least 20 dogs in the family. She has also been caring for dogs in a day care capacity for 16 years. She says this is what sets La Pawta apart from others.
“We actually are passionate about the animals, the dog being here with us, and also connect with the humans,” she added.
Andrew said that since they have been open, La Pawta has already won two awards.
“It’s more than just grooming. It’s holistic. We care about the dog, we care about the owners, and we just want to make sure everyone stays,” he said.
Iria said they accommodate special needs for the animals as well.
