Early voting for the city of Rio Rancho's runoff election began Wednesday.

The runoff election is necessary for District 1 and 6 city councilors because no candidate in the March 5 election received a majority of the votes cast, as required by the city’s charter.

Early voting for registered Rio Rancho residents in District 1 and 6 is available through April 6. Election Day voting is April 9.

The city of Rio Rancho municipal election ended on March 5 with incumbent Paul Wymer retaining his seat in District 4. Wymer will be sworn in Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in a ceremony at City Hall ahead of the City Council meeting.

The other two districts on the ballot required runoffs.
