Doula program looks to expand into Rio Rancho
RIO RANCHO — Doulas have been around since prehistoric times, but the modern version of the doula began in the 1960s. Now, Rio Rancho could have access to Many Mothers, a doula organization.
It announced Feb. 10 that it partnered with Blue Cross/Blue Shield of New Mexico, and that will allow it to expand services to Rio Rancho in the Special Beginnings program.
“This collaboration embodies our commitment to achieve health equity and well-being for babies and their caregivers,” said Kai Forsley, executive director of Many Mothers.
According to a release, Many Mothers programming includes one-on-one home visits from trained volunteers, providing personalized support to mothers and caregivers during the crucial transition to parenthood, and access to a network of professionals such as lactation consultants, mental health specialists and community health workers to ensure that mothers and caregivers have access to comprehensive support during the childbirth journey.
Many Mothers is also looking for volunteers in the area.
“Together, we can make a meaningful impact on maternal and infant health in New Mexico,” Forsley said.
