RIO RANCHO — A wonderland of Lego bricks. There was no better way to spend a day for dozens of people, adult and child alike, March 22 at Big Brother’s Bricks’ during its grand opening.

Just next door, L&L Hawaiian Barbeque was having its grand opening at the same time.

“All right, I don’t have a bunch of hula dancers, but we’re super excited,” co-owner Johnathan Sillett said.

People waited patiently outside minutes before the opening, and Sillett finally came out to hype them up.

“Let’s just let you in for some Lego,” he proclaimed.

As kids and adults walked in the store, their faces lit up. People were drawn to all corners of the room. Whether it was Star Wars, Marvel, that one car or a type writer, people found the thing they wanted.

One youngster, Brody Hege, was happy to be building Legos in the building corner. He and his mom, Rio Ranchoans that live near the store, were there for the opening. Hege said he didn’t want to share the Legos he was building.

Another kid walked in and said, “This is amazing!” loudly. He looked around in bewilderment and tugged his parent’s shirt. “Look at all the Legos!” he said.

Sillett wasn’t prepared for the amount of people that showed up, however.

“We got a lot of people,” he said.

Throughout the day, the shelves began to empty. Sillett said not to worry because they have plenty of inventory as he and his wife Jamie have an extensive collection of Lego products and will be restocking as they make sales.
