The Cleveland Storm are riding an 11-game winning streak and peaking at the right time. The squad kicked off district play with two straight three-set victories, over Cibola and Farmington.
In the match against Farmington, Azlynn Tittmann dominated with 12 kills, 3 blocks, 8 digs and a service return. Junior Miya Branaugh was devastating on the serve, racking up an impressive 6 total aces.
RRHS 3, Volcano Vista 0
The Rio Rams matched the feat by starting 2-0 in district as well, prompting Coach Toby Manzanares to quip, “I like the ring of that,” to the Observer after the teams’ 3-0 victory over Volcano Vista on Oct. 10.
The Rams are also starting to peak, with Jacey Mader and Sanieda Trejo finding accuracy to match their power at the net, logging 10 and 13 kills respectively. Alyssa Dominguez was in peak form on defense with 13 digs, but the defensive title goes to libero Reece Cave, who had 17 digs.

RRHS 3, Farmington 1
The Rams boys team had two big victories this week. The first was a tough fought battle versus Cleveland in which they emerged victorious with a 1-0 win thanks to a goal from striker Bryson Strohecker. The second was a road victory over the Farmington Scorpions. The Rams are now 14-2, 6-0 in 5A-1 and on a 12-game winning streak.
CHS 3, Cibola 0
The Storm brushed off the loss to the Rams with a big 3-0 shutout victory over the Cibola Cougars on Oct. 12. Mario Montoya, Erick Andrade and Denym Lodge all scored goals. Julian Ortega posted an assist.

Sophomore striker Aliyah C’deBaca scored a goal in each game. Midfielder Taylor Williamson scored the second goal against the Cougars.

The Rams are on a bit of a slide after dropping a 1-0 match to Cleveland, followed by a 3-0 loss to the Farmington Scorpions.

The Spartans came back from a tough loss to Hope with a close win against Shiprock (7-6) Oct. 12.The Spartans did play against Del Norte (5-7) on Oct 10 but that score has not been reported yet.

The Spartans (7-8-1) started off the week strong with a 3-0 win against Valley high school (6-11). However, their fortunes changed against undefeated Hope (15-0). Hope won against Bernalillo 10-0 and proved once again why they are the number one ranked team in the state (101st in the nation).

The Spartans (8-7-1) started off their week with a solid win on Oct. 8 against visiting Valley (4-13). Captain Victor Vega scored a couple of early goals that really set the tone for the rest of the game.
The Spartans also dropped a game against visiting Hope (12-2-1) in which junior Ethan Bigelow was able to score two goals.

Cross-countryThe Bernalillo cross country team hosted the Bernalillo Invite Cross Country Meet at Santo Domingo Pueblo. A nice surprise for the Spartans has been Josh Loretto and Shane Toya who performed well in previous meets. For the girls, Kinani Pacheco continues to be the top runner along with newcomer Savannah Sangre.
