BERNALILLO — Despite rain and chilly weather, the town of Bernalillo still showed up for the annual Easter celebration at Rotary Park April 19.

“It means everything to have the support of the community. Everything is always free, and we just encourage everyone to just come out and enjoy,” said Christiana Jones said, Bernalillo’s Community and Economic Development Director.

The event is dubbed the “Bernalillo Eggstravaganza” and is in its 23rd year.

Mother Angelica Guevara attended the event with her two kids, saying, “We come out every year to celebrate the Easter Eggstravaganza with the town of Bernalillo.”

The event also included extra prizes, fun jump houses, face painting free coffee, bakery items and hot dogs.

All the food and beverages came courtesy of First Assembly Church.

“We come together with the town of Bernalillo ... We provide the sweets, the hot chocolate, the coffee, the hot dogs and chips,” said volunteer Brenda Stewart said, a member of First Assembly Church. “We love it when we get a good turnout. Rain or shine, Bernalillo will come through.”

The egg hunt kicked off at 10 a.m. for ages 1-12, and plenty of kids left the wet field with smiles on their faces.

“It means a lot to our family and the community because these create chances for all of us to get together. It’s also a good feeling to know the town is always there for us and with us,” Guevara said.
