Bernalillo High School gets new principal
BERNALILLO — Bernalillo High School has named a new principal, Bernalillo Public Schools recently announced in a news release.
Rosangela Montoya, an alumna of the school who was previously the district’s director of language and culture, assumed her new role Aug. 20, following the tenure of Principal Alyssa Sanchez-Padilla.
“Bernalillo High School holds a very special place in my heart, both as a former student and now as its leader,” Montoya said in the release. “I am honored to serve our students, families and community in this role and look forward to continuing the strong tradition of excellence and cultural pride that makes BHS so unique.”
Superintendent Matt Montaño praised Montoya in the release.
“Rosangela has been a pillar in our district for nearly two decades. Her vision for inclusive, dual-language learning and her commitment to high expectations for our community make her the ideal leader for Bernalillo High School,” Montaño said. “We are thrilled to welcome her into this role.”
Reached via LinkedIn Monday, Sanchez-Padilla said she had no comment on her departure, other than to say that she was “honored to work with such an amazing team of educators at BHS.”
“We did an exceptional job for the school and the students,” Sanchez-Padilla said. “My heart is in educating children and doing my best, and I did that.”
