A NMDOT truck sits near the 550 and 528 intersection to deal with a light outage.
BERNALILLO — The traffic lights are down at the intersection of US 550 and NM 528, making the busy intersection a four-way stop, for the time being, as New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) workers attempt to fix the signals.
The lights at the intersection became non-operational in the early morning hours of Feb. 3.
"The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) District Three has announced a signal outage at the intersection of US 550 and NM 528 due to emergency repairs. During this time, the traffic signal will be non-operational, and an all-way stop will be in effect," NMDOT said in a release.
Motorists should expect heavy delays and are advised to seek alternate routes if possible. At around noon, traffic was backed up in all directions, including all the way to the freeway heading east.
