Pets are vulnerable during the holidays, and not just because humans bring more chocolate into the home.

Rio Rancho Fire Rescue shared some other things that pets can’t ingest that are holiday related.

Those decorations are not good for their stomachs, it turns out. Ribbons, tinsels, ornaments, lights and candles are all things people should avoid with their pets.

The Christmas tree pine needles, holly berries, mistletoe, poinsettias and lilly petals are all plants that can cause pets to get sick as well.

Additionally those human foods that pets beg for at holiday dinners can cause some serious damage. Poultry bones, turkey skin, onions and alcohol can be fatal. Chocolate and macadamia nuts are a no-go as well.

Pet M.D. says if pets ingest any of these items, it can cause problems like indigestion, seizures, hypotension or even, in some cases, death.

If a pet has ingested any of these items, take them to a vet immediately. There are several veterinarian locations, according to Google:

  • Mission Vet Clinic, 2451 Cabezon Blvd.
  • Mesa Grande Animal Clinic, 2018 Southern Blvd.
  • Zia Pet Hospital, 373 Unser Blvd.
  • Sunrise Vet Clinic, 132 Rio Rancho Blvd.
  • Coronado Pet Hospital, 4192 NM 528
  • Cottonwood Animal Clinic, 1101 Rio Rancho Blvd. SE
  • High Desert Animal Hospital, 4035 Peggy Road
