What's up this weekend? A look at what's going on around Sandoval Co. Sept. 27-29
1. Join the Rio Rancho Community Foundation for the annual Mayor's Gala Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Santa Ana Star Casino & Hotel. The event, a fundraiser for local nonprofits in 2025, runs from 6-10 p.m. and features a dinner, dance and auction. The formal event has a Tropical Nights theme this year. 2. Corrales Harvest Fest runs Saturday and Sunday with education demonstrations, crafts and Sunday's pet parade. The festival runs 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days, stretching down Corrales Road from La Entrada to the north property of the Sandia Bar. The pet parade will close Corrales Road from Coronado Road to Old Church Road from 8:45-10 a.m. Sunday. The event has been held since 1985 to promote and develop the history and character of Corrales through a yearly educational and recreational event that showcases the local agriculture, merchants, artwork, performing arts and historic culture. 3. Heartstrings Theatre Company is hosting a scholarship fundraising event from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at the McDermott Athletic Center, 801 Loma Colorado Blvd. The MAC has donated two hours of ice time for the event, where attendees can enjoy an evening of ice skating for $10 with proceeds going to fund scholarships for the theater company, including a new one that will be established in memory of Betty Ann McDermott, which will be awarded annually to help a child participate in Heartstrings' programs regardless of financial circumstances. The evening will also include a costume contest, were participants are invited to dress as their favorite "Frozen" character, and hot chocolate and treats will be available for purchase. Tickets for the scholarship fundraising event are available now for $10 and can be purchased online before the event at Heartstrings Theatre Company's website or at the door. 4. Rio Rancho Events Center will play host to "The Country & WESTern Tour" featuring Ian Munsick will make a stop at the Rio Rancho Events Center at 6:40 p.m. Sept. 28, with special guests Bryan Martin, Ole 60 and The Songs Swap (Jenna LaMaster, Faren Rachels and Kasey Tyndall). Munsick has been named an “Artist to Watch” by Spotify, CMT, Fender, MusicRow and more. A seasoned entertainer, having grown up tending cattle by day and playing music in a family band each night, Munsick toured recently alongside country music superstars Morgan Wallen and Cody Johnson. 5. The third annual Sandoval County Car Show and Flea Market is slated for Saturday at 1500 Idalia Road in Bernalillo. The flea market runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. with the car show from 9 a.m. to noon. Trophies will be awarded for Best of Show, People's Choice, Best Custom Car and more. Admission is free to the family-friendly event that will feature unique and interesting wares, crafts, food, music along with beautiful cars. More than 20 vendors are scheduled to participate. Registration must be made by Sept. 26. Fee is $20 for a covered space or $15 for an uncovered space. County employees working the event are volunteering their time at no cost to the county or taxpayers.
