Carson Rice leads Rams; Ava Schlosser paces Storm

ALBUQUERQUE – The Rio Rancho High School swimming and diving teams placed among the top 12 teams at last weekend’s state meet at the Albuquerque Academy Natatorium.

The top five boys’ teams at state were, in order, Eldorado (331 points), Los Alamos (301), Albuquerque Academy (278), La Cueva (148) and Santa Fe (131.5). The Rams boys (87) were 10th; the Storm boys (39) were 15th.

The top five girls’ teams were Albuquerque Academy (335), Eldorado (259), La Cueva (250), Los Alamos (230) and Clovis (130). The Rams’ girls (82) were 11th; the Storm girls (60) were 14th.

Seniors Carson Rice and Ava Schlosser led the way for the City of Vision teams.

Rio Rancho’s Rice was fourth in the 100-yard freestyle and fifth in the 50-yard freestyle. He also swam on the Rams’ seventh-place 200-yard medley relay team (with Jacob Rice, Trenton McDonald and Logan Sunstrom) and anchored the Rams’ eighth-place 400-yard freestyle quartet (with Jacob Rice, McDonald and Xavier King).

Cleveland’s Schlosser was fourth in the 50-yard freestyle and anchored the Storm’s eighth-place 200-tyard freestyle relay squad (with Ellie Ortiz, Madison Broom and Avery Banes).

Also scoring points for the RRHS girls were Miquela Valdez, who was fourth in the 1-meter dive, and teammate Kayla Sunstrom, who was eighth in that event.

Kendal Moody of RRHS was eighth in the 100-yard freestyle.

The CHS boys also garnered points from their eighth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay; Guha Hari, Lucas Espinosa, Dylan Schluep and Seth McLaughlin made up that quartet.
