Puesta del Sol released from lockout as police handle disorderly person

Rio Rancho Public Schools announced at 1:45 p.m. Sept. 12 that Puesta del Sol Elementary was on lockout mode until further notice due to police activity nearby. The school was released from lockout shortly after.

"This message is to notify you that the Puesta Del Sol campus has been placed on a temporary lockout due to police activity in the area. This means that classes and learning will continue as scheduled, but no one will be allowed to enter or exit our campus until further notice. This is a precautionary action based on information and guidance we have received from the Rio Rancho Police Department and the RRPS Safety and Security Department. We will notify you when the lockout is lifted," a message to parents stated.

The city of Rio Rancho says the issue near Puesta Del Sol involved a disorderly suspect that was on foot. The Sandoval County Sheriff's Office made contact with the individual, and the school, which was briefly put on lockdown, is now operating as normal.
