Rio Rancho Public Schools has canceled all classes for Wednesday, Feb. 15, due to inclement weather and road conditions.

This includes SpaRRk Academy, Rio Rancho Cyber Academy and the S.A.F.E. Program. After-school athletics are currently on as scheduled.

Here is the full announcement from the district, sent about 5 a.m.:

Due to the snow and probable icy conditions on roadways in Rio Rancho and as a two hour delay is not possible given our early release schedule, classes at all Rio Rancho Public Schools are canceled for today, February 15, 2023 (this includes the SpaRRk Academy and Rio Rancho Cyber Academy).

We recognize that conditions may improve throughout the day; however, in order to have school, buses would need to start their routes now and the conditions are still unsafe for buses and drivers on both major roadways and side roads. Safety is always our top priority. In addition, while we understand that your neighborhood may not appear to have much snow or ice, Rio Rancho Public Schools’ boundaries are expansive and many areas are unsafe for travel.

The S.A.F.E. program WILL NOT operate on February 15, 2023. As of now, athletics practices and/or competitions will continue after-school as scheduled, and we will notify you if anything changes.

We will continue to monitor conditions throughout the day. Should any changes to class schedules be issued for tomorrow, we will update you via email, text, phone message, on local news stations, on our website and on our social media accounts.
