Standoff with police ends with one man in custody

Rio Rancho Police responded to a call regarding an armed man at the Title Cash Store on Southern Boulevard and Western Hills Drive on Monday afternoon.

Several units responded to the scene with guns drawn, giving the unidentified man several commands.

As police told the man to put his hands up, he ignored them and opened the back door to a grey sedan where a child was sitting.

As the child exited the vehicle, the man helped him secure a shoe and let the boy run to an officer. That’s when police moved forward to take the man into custody.

Soon after he was apprehended, the unidentified man was taken from the scene on a gurney in a Rio Rancho Fire and Rescue ambulance.
