A Rio Rancho teenager was shot and killed Jan. 12 at Rio Vista Park, and another juvenile was arrested in connection with the crime soon after.
As of Friday, Rio Rancho Police hadn’t released the identity of the person arrested, but Capt. Ron Vigil said Gabriel Storz, 16, of Rio Rancho, was the victim. Vigil also said thus far, everyone identified as being involved is from Rio Rancho.
He said officers were called to the park about 6:10 p.m. Jan. 12 and found Storz fatally shot. They worked to identify three people of interest and arrested a suspect early Jan. 13.
Police were working with the district attorney’s office on a grand jury hearing to determine charges, Vigil said.
Investigators believe the killing was related to a drug deal.
He declined to release more information because the people involved were minors and the investigation is ongoing.
